Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a tragic accident occurred on Interstate 10 near milepost 333, just east of the Highway 191 South exit. Willcox Fire and Rescue, along with Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) State Troopers, responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV had broken down and was stopped on the westbound side of I-10. A box truck, also traveling westbound, collided with the stationary SUV. The force of the impact caused the box truck to cross over onto the eastbound side of the interstate.
Paramedics pronounced two individuals from the SUV deceased at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the box truck reportedly did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage due to the collision. The crash remains under investigation.
