Woman Charged After Willcox Assault

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, around 12:30 AM, officers from the Willcox Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing victim that had arrived at Northern Cochise Community Hospital. When officers arrived, they found a 34-year-old male victim who had suffered a life-threatening stab wound to the abdomen. Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim had to be flown to a Tucson hospital for more advanced medical care. The victim told officers that Ruby Sarmiento, 26 of Willcox, was the individual who had stabbed him.

The investigation revealed that the stabbing took place at a residence in the 400 block of W. Jesse St. Officers went to the home and secured the scene for detectives. Detectives discovered the violent crime scene in a back bedroom of the home with blood splatter and other evidence. The scene was processed, and detectives continued their investigation.

Later Tuesday morning, Ruby Sarmiento was located with evidence on her from the incident and taken into custody. Sarmiento faces charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault causing serious injury. The victim did survive his injuries and remained hospitalized in Tucson.
